Flag Day- Monday, June 14th at HPCC
Flag Day, June 14th marks the anniversary of the adoption by Congress in 1777 of the Stars and Stripes as emblem of the nation. Celebrations of the flag began in local communities throughout the country during the nineteenth century, largely for the purpose of educating children in history. We strive to continue that tradition by involving local elementary school choirs, orchestras and individual children reciting historical facts about the flag.
Our 2009 Celebration took place on Sunday, June 14th at 10:00 a.m. at the High Plains Community Center.
The ceremony began with the presentation of the colors by the Orange Police Department, The VFW Post and The Boy Scouts, the raising of the flag by Dominick Morzini. The days festivities also included National Anthem sung by Andrea Drobish-Kennedy, the Blessing of the flag by Connie Gustafson and Racebrook Elementary School Students singing God Bless America and You're a Grand Old Flag. A delicious lite breakfast followed the ceremony in the Senior Center Cafeteria.
Below are a few pictures from the ceremony and the celebration afterwards.
